About Us

Background

South African Twirling Baton Sports Association (SATBSA) is a non-profit organization that aims to develop the
sport of baton twirling in South Africa. The organization was established by members who previously
participated in the sport as athletes, on the 10th of November 2017. The organization, therefore, aims to
reintegrate baton twirling into the South African pool of available sporting codes and ultimately make baton
twirling a sport of choice for most athletes in the country.

Baton Twirling is a sport that combines movement and creative display of a tool (baton), to project one creativity
and also captivate the audience in the process. This enables participants to express themselves through an
immaculate choreography that can express excellence in movement and coordination of the baton. The sport can
accommodate athletes from an early age until one can no longer be able to participate. The sport assists
participants with discipline, creativity, and the ability to work hard and follow instructions.
South African Twirling Baton Sport Association is a recognized affiliate of the World Baton Twirling Federation
(WBTF) partners with The Association for International Sport For All (TAFISA). This will in turn enable us to take
out athletes to intentional competitions and other intra-continental competitions.
